Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will visit Washington on Monday for high‑stakes discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump, following Trump’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska that ended without a ceasefire in Ukraine.

Zelenskiy confirmed the trip after a 90‑minute call with Trump on Saturday, which was later joined by European and NATO leaders. The Ukrainian leader said the talks will focus on “ending the killing and the war” and reiterated his support for Trump’s proposal of a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia.

Kyiv continues to insist on robust security guarantees as part of any agreement, aiming to deter future Russian aggression. While Trump described his meeting with Putin as “productive,” no breakthrough was reached, and both sides remain far apart on key issues.

The Washington meeting is expected to test whether direct leader‑level engagement can unlock progress toward a lasting peace — or simply underscore the entrenched positions that have defined the conflict since Russia’s full‑scale invasion in 2022.
