Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on Monday, just days after a high-profile U.S.-Russia summit in Alaska ended without securing a ceasefire in Ukraine.

The Alaska talks between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin produced no agreement to halt the fighting, but Trump emerged advocating for a comprehensive peace agreement rather than a temporary truce — a stance that aligns with Moscow’s position.

Zelensky, who was not invited to the summit, said he held a “long and substantive” conversation with Trump early Saturday and welcomed the invitation to Washington. The two leaders are expected to discuss “all of the details regarding ending the killing and the war,” with Trump suggesting that, if progress is made, a trilateral meeting with Putin could follow.

European leaders, briefed by Trump after the summit, expressed readiness to support a three-way meeting and pledged to maintain pressure on Russia until a “just and lasting peace” is achieved.

The meeting will mark Zelensky’s first visit to the U.S. since a tense Oval Office exchange with Trump earlier this year. It comes as the war — now in its fourth year — continues to claim lives daily, with both sides showing no sign of slowing military operations.
