Israel and Lebanon Agree to 10‑Day Ceasefire as Trump Announces Breakthrough

Israel and Lebanon Reach 10‑Day Ceasefire Following Trump Announcement Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10‑day ceasefire set to begin at 5 p.m. EST, according to U.S. President Donald Trump, who said the truce followed “excellent conversations” with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.  The ceasefire comes after more than six weeks of intense fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, the Iran‑backed armed group operating in southern Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in over 2,000 deaths in Lebanon and displaced more than a million residents, while Israel has maintained a 10‑kilometre security zone in southern Lebanon. Trump stated that both leaders agreed to begin the truce to pursue peace, adding that he plans to invite them to the White House for the first direct talks between the two countries since 1983. Alberta Boy, 12, Accused of Stabbing Younger Brother in Lethbridge Home

Lethbridge police say the father called 911 last week after finding a seven-year-old boy with stab wounds.

A 12-year-old boy from Lethbridge, Alberta, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after allegedly stabbing his seven-year-old brother multiple times.

Police say the incident happened on August 27 at a northside residence, where the boys’ father returned home to find his younger son in serious medical distress. The older brother initially claimed that an unknown intruder had entered the home and attacked the child before fleeing.

The victim was rushed to Chinook Regional Hospital in critical condition and later airlifted to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, where he remains in stable condition.

Investigators recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack and later determined that the 12-year-old was responsible, allegedly believing he had killed his brother before fabricating the intruder story.

The accused, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Police say child and family services are involved, and victim support services have been offered to the family.
