Athens Flights to Continue Amid Strike, Travelers Urged to Prepare for Delays

Despite a nationwide general strike set for October 1, 2025, flights to and from Athens International Airport will operate as scheduled after Greek courts ruled the participation of air traffic controllers in the strike illegal. AEGEAN and Olympic Air confirmed that all domestic and international services will proceed, though passengers may still face significant delays due to ongoing restrictions on the number of takeoffs and landings per hour.

Athens International Airport has already been grappling with disruptions, with nearly one in five flights delayed earlier this week, some by up to two hours. The strike is expected to heavily impact other modes of transport, including ferries, metro, buses, and taxis, leaving travelers with limited alternatives.

Authorities and airlines are advising passengers to check for real-time updates, allow extra time for their journeys, and be prepared for longer queues at Greece’s busiest airport.
