Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk Fatally Shot During Utah Campus Event; Trump Leads Tributes

Right-wing youth organizer Charlie Kirk was shot during an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Sept. 10, 2025.

Charlie Kirk, 31, a prominent right-wing commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Wednesday during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University in Orem. The incident occurred roughly 20 minutes into his appearance as part of the “American Comeback Tour,” when a single shot rang out from a nearby building, striking Kirk.

President Donald Trump confirmed Kirk’s death on Truth Social, calling him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk” and praising his influence on America’s youth. Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and California Governor Gavin Newsom condemning the attack and denouncing political violence.

Kirk, a staunch Trump ally, built a national profile advocating conservative values on college campuses. He is survived by his wife, Erika, and their two young children. Utah Valley University has closed its campus while authorities investigate. A suspect has been taken into custody, though details about the motive remain unclear.
