Gulf on Edge as UAE Oil Hub Blaze Fuels Iran–US Tensions

Smoke rises in the Fujairah oil industry zone, caused by debris after interception of a drone by air defences. A surge in regional tensions has followed a major fire at a UAE oil hub, sparked by debris from intercepted drones, as Iran vows retaliation for a recent U.S. strike on its Kharg Island oil facilities. The incident has intensified fears of broader conflict across the Gulf, with Iran warning that parts of the UAE could be considered legitimate targets.  A significant fire erupted at a major oil hub in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, after debris from intercepted drones fell onto the facility, disrupting operations and sending plumes of smoke across the region. The blaze occurred amid escalating hostilities following a U.S. strike on Iran’s Kharg Island—Tehran’s primary oil export terminal. Iran responded with sharp warnings, declaring that U.S. “hideouts” within the UAE could be targeted as legitimate military sites. The threat came as Iran continued missile and d...

Copenhagen Drone Disruption Raises Fears of Coordinated Hybrid Attacks

Police officers are shown at the Copenhagen Airport after it was closed to all traffic due to drone reports late Monday.

Flights at Copenhagen Airport were brought to a standstill on Monday night after two to three large unidentified drones flew over Scandinavia’s busiest hub for several hours. The incident forced the suspension of all take-offs and landings, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and sparking concerns about European security.

Danish police described the drone operator as a “capable actor” who appeared to be demonstrating advanced skills rather than attempting to cause immediate harm. Authorities, however, did not rule out the possibility of the incident being part of a broader hybrid attack, potentially linked to recent Russian activities across Europe.

Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called the event “the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date,” noting that it fits a pattern of drone incursions, airspace violations, and cyber disruptions reported in other European countries.

The disruption coincided with a similar drone sighting at Oslo Airport in Norway, where traffic was briefly restricted to a single runway. While no direct connection has been confirmed, the timing has heightened regional concerns.

Flights at Copenhagen resumed early Tuesday, though delays and cancellations continued into the morning. Investigators are now examining how the drones reached the airport, including the possibility they were launched from boats in the Baltic Sea.
