Disney Faces Backlash Over Jimmy Kimmel Suspension as Writers Rally for Free Speech

Disney-owned ABC’s decision to indefinitely suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! has ignited a wave of protests from writers, performers, and free-speech advocates. The move followed Kimmel’s on-air remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which drew sharp criticism from President Donald Trump and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr.

Dozens of Writers Guild of America members gathered outside Disney offices in New York and Los Angeles, holding signs reading “Don’t Bend a Knee to Trump” and “Douse the Mouse.” Protesters accused Disney of capitulating to political pressure and undermining First Amendment protections.

The controversy has also sparked online calls to boycott Disney and ABC, with high-profile figures urging talent to halt work until Kimmel is reinstated. While Disney has not commented on the show’s future, the suspension has placed the entertainment giant at the center of a heated national debate over corporate responsibility, government influence, and the limits of political satire.
