Markets Slip as Investors Bet on Extended U.S.–Iran Ceasefire

Stocks Edge Lower as Investors Hope U.S.–Iran Ceasefire Will Hold Stocks drifted lower today as markets balanced cautious optimism over a potential extension of the U.S.–Iran ceasefire with persistent geopolitical and inflation concerns. Recent trading sessions have shown that even modest signs of diplomatic progress can meaningfully shift investor sentiment. Asian and U.S. markets rallied earlier this week on hopes that Washington and Tehran would continue negotiations, helping unwind some of the war-driven risk premiums that had pushed oil and volatility higher. Heathrow Terminal 4 Reopens After Hazardous Materials Scare

                                            London Heathrow Airport.

London’s Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4 has reopened after a temporary closure on Monday evening due to a suspected hazardous materials incident. The terminal’s check-in area was evacuated around 5:01 PM BST as emergency services — including the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police, and London Ambulance Service — responded to reports of a possible threat.

Specialist crews conducted a thorough assessment, and train services to the terminal were briefly suspended during the investigation. Approximately 21 people were assessed for minor symptoms such as breathing difficulties or irritation, with one individual taken to hospital for further evaluation.

By 8:00 PM, authorities confirmed no hazardous substances were found, and the terminal was declared safe for operations. While dozens of flights experienced delays of up to three hours, other terminals at Heathrow continued to operate normally throughout the incident.

Airport officials have apologized for the disruption and urged passengers to check with their airlines for any residual delays. The cause of the initial alarm remains under investigation.
