Market Jitters Return as Cooler CPI Surprises Wall Street

A softer‑than‑expected U.S. Consumer Price Index reading sent a ripple through financial markets today, creating an unusual dynamic: good news on inflation, but renewed pressure on major stock indexes. A Cooling CPI, but a Nervous Market The latest CPI report showed inflation easing more than economists anticipated. Under normal circumstances, that would be a welcome sign—suggesting the Federal Reserve may have more room to consider rate cuts later in the year. But markets don’t always behave logically in the moment. Israel Establishes ‘Humanitarian Zone’ in Khan Younis Amid Intensifying Gaza Operation

Mourners react during the funeral of Palestinians killed by Israeli fire while trying to receive aid on Sunday, according to medics, at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis

The Israeli military has announced the creation of a designated “humanitarian area” in the Al-Mawasi district of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, as it prepares to expand military operations in the enclave. According to the Israel Defense Forces, the zone will include field hospitals, water pipelines, desalination facilities, and food supplies, with residents urged to evacuate there for safety.

The move comes as fighting escalates, with parts of Gaza City declared “red zones” ahead of expected heavy clashes. The military says the safe zone will operate in coordination with the United Nations and international organizations, though aid groups have previously warned that such evacuations risk worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Al-Mawasi has been designated a safe zone before, but has also been struck during the conflict, raising concerns over the protection of civilians sheltering there. The war, now approaching two years, has displaced hundreds of thousands and left Gaza facing severe shortages of food, water, and medical care.
