Canada's Rent Slide Is Finally Stalling — What It Means If You Rent or Rent Out

Published August 13, 2026 For nearly two years, "Canadian rents are falling" has been one of the safest headlines in personal finance. The August 2026 National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Urbanation, released last week, suggests that streak may finally be running out of road — and the shift matters whether you're the one paying rent or the one collecting it. Israeli Strike Kills Hamas Armed Wing Spokesperson Amid Intensified Gaza Offensive

Always seen wearing a Palestinian scarf to cover his face, he became a symbol for Hamas supporters across West Asia.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Abu Obeida, the longtime spokesperson for Hamas’ armed wing—the Qassam Brigades—was killed in an airstrike in Gaza over the weekend. The operation, reportedly coordinated between Israel’s Shin Bet security agency and the military’s Southern Command, targeted a building in Gaza City’s al-Rimal neighborhood, where Obeida was believed to be operating under the alias Hudhayfa al-Kahlut.

Abu Obeida had served as the face of Hamas’ military wing since 2004, often delivering statements while concealing his identity with a red keffiyeh. His final message, issued Friday, warned that hostages held by Hamas would remain in combat zones and that the remains of deceased hostages would “disappear forever”.

The strike comes as Israel escalates its military campaign in Gaza City, now designated a “dangerous combat zone.” The Israeli security cabinet met Sunday to discuss further expansion of the offensive, which has already led to significant civilian casualties and displacement. Local hospitals reported dozens of deaths over the weekend, including civilians attempting to access humanitarian aid.

Hamas has not confirmed Obeida’s death, a common delay in acknowledging leadership losses. Meanwhile, Israeli officials reiterated their intent to continue targeting Hamas leadership, both within Gaza and abroad, as part of their broader strategy to dismantle the group following the October 2023 attacks.
