In Gaza City’s Nasser neighborhood — one of the few areas left relatively unscathed — residents are facing an agonizing choice: stay and risk being caught in the next wave of Israeli military operations, or flee into an already overcrowded and resource-starved south.

Israeli forces have dropped leaflets warning of an imminent takeover of the western district, intensifying fears that tanks will soon roll in. The military says it has already seized control of 40% of Gaza City and struck hundreds of targets in recent days, aiming to dismantle Hamas infrastructure.

For many families, leaving is not an option. With scarce money, no transport, and dwindling safe zones, some say they will remain — even if it means facing the bombardment. Others, like Abu Ahmed, are packing what little they can onto carts and motorcycles, weary from nearly two years of displacement and loss.
