Poland Rebukes Trump Over Russian Drone Incident, Calls It a Deliberate Provocation

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk holds a press conference regarding the threat posed by Russian drones in Polish airspace at the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Lask.

Polish leaders have firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion that a recent Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace might have been a mistake. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated, “We would also wish that the drone attack on Poland was a mistake. But it wasn’t. And we know it”.

The incident occurred when at least 19 Russian-made drones crossed into Poland during a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine. NATO fighter jets from Poland and the Netherlands were scrambled, marking the first time allied aircraft have engaged aerial threats in NATO airspace since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk emphasized there was “no question of a mistake,” describing the incursion as a calculated move to test NATO’s defenses. Foreign Minister RadosÅ‚aw Sikorski added that the attack coincided with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles striking Ukraine, underscoring its coordinated nature.

Warsaw has requested an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting to address the breach, while NATO allies have pledged to bolster Poland’s air defenses. The episode has heightened tensions between Moscow and the alliance, with European officials warning it was a deliberate provocation aimed at probing NATO’s resolve.
