Markets Slip as Investors Bet on Extended U.S.–Iran Ceasefire

Stocks Edge Lower as Investors Hope U.S.–Iran Ceasefire Will Hold Stocks drifted lower today as markets balanced cautious optimism over a potential extension of the U.S.–Iran ceasefire with persistent geopolitical and inflation concerns. Recent trading sessions have shown that even modest signs of diplomatic progress can meaningfully shift investor sentiment. Asian and U.S. markets rallied earlier this week on hopes that Washington and Tehran would continue negotiations, helping unwind some of the war-driven risk premiums that had pushed oil and volatility higher. Despite the pullback, investors remain hopeful that the ceasefire—currently set to expire soon—will be extended, giving negotiators more time to work toward a longer-term agreement. Trump Joins Yankees for 9/11 Tribute at Yankee Stadium

President Donald Trump shakes hands with New York Yankees Aaron Judge in the locker room.

On the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, President Donald Trump attended the New York Yankees’ game against the Detroit Tigers at Yankee Stadium. The evening began with a solemn pregame ceremony honoring the nearly 3,000 victims and the first responders who risked their lives in 2001. Players wore “FDNY” and “NYPD” hats, and pitchers Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón, along with manager Aaron Boone, laid a wreath at Monument Park.

Before the first pitch, Trump visited the Yankees’ clubhouse, greeting players and recalling his friendship with late team owner George Steinbrenner. He praised star outfielder Aaron Judge as “fantastic” and predicted the team would “go all the way” this season.

Seated in a protective glass suite alongside Yankees president Randy Levine and owner Hal Steinbrenner, Trump was met with a mix of cheers and boos when shown on the stadium’s jumbotron during the national anthem. Chants of “U-S-A” echoed through the stands as he joined in the patriotic salute.

Security was heightened for the visit, with Secret Service agents, metal detectors, and K-9 units stationed throughout the venue. The appearance marked Trump’s latest stop at a major sporting event in 2025, following his attendance at the U.S. Open men’s final earlier in the month.
