Trump Leads Emotional Tribute to Charlie Kirk, Calling Him a “Martyr for Freedom”

President Donald Trump with Erika Kirk at the memorial service for her husband.

Tens of thousands gathered at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, to honor conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot earlier this month while speaking at Utah Valley University. The memorial, which drew political leaders, family, and supporters, became both a solemn farewell and a rallying cry for his movement.

President Donald Trump delivered the keynote tribute, praising Kirk as a “great American hero” and a “martyr for American freedom.” He told the crowd, “He was assassinated because he lived bravely, he lived boldly, and he argued brilliantly. None of us will ever forget Charlie, and neither now will history.”

Kirk’s widow, Erika, moved mourners with a powerful message of forgiveness. She told the audience she forgave the accused gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, saying, “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love.” Erika also vowed to continue her husband’s work by stepping into a leadership role at Turning Point USA, the youth organization he founded.

The service blended elements of a political rally and a religious revival, with Christian music, patriotic displays, and speeches from prominent conservative figures. Vice President JD Vance and other administration officials described Kirk’s death as a pivotal moment for the movement, urging supporters to carry on his mission.

Kirk, 31, was remembered as a driving force in mobilizing young conservatives and shaping the modern right. His assassination has reignited debate over political violence and free speech in America, even as his supporters pledged to turn grief into renewed activism.
