President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of the National Guard to Memphis, Tennessee, describing the move as a “replica” of his recent federal intervention in Washington, D.C..

Announcing the decision alongside Republican Governor Bill Lee at the White House, Trump said the operation would combine Guard troops with federal agencies such as the FBI, DEA, ICE, and the U.S. Marshals Service. The White House claimed Memphis’ crime rate remains above the national average, despite local police reporting a 25-year low in overall crime and a six-year low in murders for 2025.
