In a fiery address to the United Nations General Assembly, President Donald Trump sharpened his stance on two of the world’s most pressing conflicts—Ukraine and Gaza—while lashing out at allies who have moved to recognize a Palestinian state.

Trump warned European nations that continued recognition of Palestinian statehood amounted to “rewarding Hamas” and undermining Israel’s security. He insisted that any path forward in Gaza must prioritize the release of hostages and a ceasefire-for-hostages deal, rejecting international calls for broader recognition of Palestinian sovereignty.

On Ukraine, Trump signaled a shift from his earlier ambivalence, pressing European leaders to adopt the same “powerful tariffs” and economic measures against Russia that he said the United States is prepared to impose if Moscow refuses to negotiate an end to the war. He criticized NATO allies for continuing to purchase Russian oil, calling it “funding the war against themselves.”
