5 Things to Know Today – June 9, 2026

Here are the five stories shaping your money today — from tomorrow's pivotal Bank of Canada decision to a looming trade deadline that could affect every Canadian business. 1. 🏦 Bank of Canada Decides Tomorrow — Hold Expected, But It's Not Simple All eyes are on Ottawa as the Bank of Canada announces its overnight rate decision on Wednesday, June 10 at 9:45 a.m. ET. The benchmark rate currently sits at 2.25%, and a hold is the widely expected outcome. But experts say it's the most uncertain call in months. Canada's economy has slipped into a technical recession — Q1 2026 GDP contracted at an annualized rate of -0.1%, following a downward revision to Q4 2025 (-1.0%). Trump Receives Historic Royal Welcome as U.K. Launches Largest Security Operation in Years

U.S. President Donald Trump and King Charles review the Guard of Honour after his arrival at Windsor Castle.

U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Britain on Wednesday for an unprecedented second state visit, greeted with full royal pageantry by King Charles III and Queen Camilla amid the tightest security seen since the King’s coronation.

The day began with a ceremonial carriage procession through the Windsor estate, flanked by the Household Cavalry and a Guard of Honour, before the Trumps joined senior royals for an open-air welcome in the castle quadrangle. The spectacle included military bands, a Beating Retreat ceremony, and a joint U.K.–U.S. fighter jet flypast — a first for a state visit.

Behind the grandeur, Thames Valley Police led a sweeping security operation involving drones, armed units, and airspace restrictions over Windsor and Chequers, where Trump will meet Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday. The measures come amid heightened political tensions and planned protests in both Windsor and London.

The visit, shortened to two days, is seen as a strategic effort by the U.K. to strengthen the “special relationship” with Washington, with trade, Ukraine, and Gaza expected to dominate Thursday’s talks.
