1 in 4 Canadians Can Only Afford the Minimum Payment on Their Credit Card

  Published August 24, 2026 · Canadian Money Brief A new survey from Equifax Canada puts a hard number on something a lot of us have felt creeping up all year: credit cards are doing more of the heavy lifting in Canadian budgets, and fewer people are paying them off. Of more than 1,500 Canadians surveyed, a quarter said they expect to make only the minimum monthly payment on their credit card, and another 7% think they'll fall behind entirely. That leaves just over half — 56% — who expect to pay their balance in full each month. The survey also found that 40% of respondents are spending more overall than they were a year ago, more than double the 18% who say they're spending less. UN Condemns Israeli Drone Grenade Attack Near Peacekeepers in Lebanon

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has accused Israel of carrying out one of the most serious attacks on its personnel since last November’s ceasefire with Hezbollah. According to UNIFIL, Israeli military drones dropped four grenades near peacekeepers on Tuesday morning as they worked to clear roadblocks hindering access to a UN position southeast of the village of Marwahin, close to the Israel-Lebanon border.

One grenade landed within 20 meters of UN personnel and vehicles, while three others fell within approximately 100 meters. No injuries were reported, but the incident prompted the suspension of the clearance operation. UNIFIL stated that the Israeli military had been informed in advance of the planned work and condemned the attack as a “serious violation” of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and international law.

The incident comes just days after the UN Security Council voted to extend UNIFIL’s mandate for a final term, with the mission set to conclude by the end of 2026. Established in 1978, UNIFIL has long served as a buffer between Lebanon and Israel, monitoring ceasefire agreements and helping to maintain stability in the volatile border region.
