5 Things to Know Today – June 9, 2026

Here are the five stories shaping your money today — from tomorrow's pivotal Bank of Canada decision to a looming trade deadline that could affect every Canadian business. 1. 🏦 Bank of Canada Decides Tomorrow — Hold Expected, But It's Not Simple All eyes are on Ottawa as the Bank of Canada announces its overnight rate decision on Wednesday, June 10 at 9:45 a.m. ET. Berlin Recalls Envoy to Georgia Amid Escalating Diplomatic Rift

Germany announced on Sunday that it will recall its ambassador to Georgia for consultations, citing months of mounting tensions between Tbilisi and the European Union.

The German Foreign Ministry said Ambassador Peter Fischer had become the target of repeated criticism from Georgian leaders, who have accused him and other EU diplomats of backing attempts to destabilize the government. Berlin described the recall as a step to “consider how to proceed” as relations continue to deteriorate.

The move comes ahead of a scheduled meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, where Georgia’s political trajectory and its strained ties with Brussels are expected to be discussed.

Georgia’s government has not yet issued an official response. However, the decision underscores the growing rift between the South Caucasus nation and its Western partners, at a time when the EU has been pressing for democratic reforms and closer alignment with European standards.
