British Journalist Sami Hamdi Detained in US Amid Israel Criticism Controversy

Sami Hamdi, a British Muslim journalist and political commentator, was detained by immigration authorities at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday morning.

British Muslim journalist and political commentator Sami Hamdi has been detained by U.S. immigration authorities after his visa was revoked during a speaking tour across the country. Hamdi, who had been addressing audiences on issues related to U.S. and Middle East policy, was taken into custody at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the detention, describing it as a “blatant affront to free speech” and linking it to Hamdi’s outspoken criticism of the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza. Hamdi had spoken at CAIR’s Sacramento gala the night before his arrest and was scheduled to continue his tour in Florida.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson confirmed that Hamdi’s visa had been revoked and that he was being placed in immigration proceedings. Supporters argue that the move reflects political pressure from pro-Israel groups, while critics of Hamdi allege his rhetoric undermines U.S. national security.

The case has sparked debate over free expression, political dissent, and the limits of U.S. immigration enforcement. Advocacy groups are now calling for Hamdi’s immediate release and reinstatement of his visa.
