Chilly Nights Ahead: First Frost Possible Across the GTA

After weeks of unseasonably warm, summer-like weather, the Greater Toronto Area is bracing for its first real taste of autumn chill. A cold front sweeping through southern Ontario has ushered in a much cooler air mass, setting the stage for potential frost over the next couple of nights.

Daytime highs are expected to struggle in the low teens, with overnight lows dipping close to the freezing mark. Rural and northern parts of the GTA are most at risk of frost, while urban centres like downtown Toronto may be spared thanks to the moderating effect of Lake Ontario.

Gardeners should take note: sensitive plants could be at risk, and covering them overnight is recommended. Thursday’s forecast high of just 12°C will mark Toronto’s coldest day since late May.

The good news? The Thanksgiving long weekend is shaping up to be sunny and mild, with temperatures rebounding into the upper teens—perfect for fall walks, family gatherings, and enjoying the season’s colours.
