Cristiano Ronaldo Joins the Billionaire Club: A Historic First in Football

ristiano Ronaldo's move to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr from Manchester United in 2023 had already made him the highest-paid player in football history, with an annual salary of $237.52m plus bonuses.

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first footballer to achieve billionaire status, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The 40-year-old Portuguese star’s net worth is now estimated at $1.4 billion, placing him among an elite group of athletes such as Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and LeBron James.

Ronaldo’s financial rise has been fueled by a combination of record-breaking salaries, lucrative endorsements, and savvy investments. His move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in 2023 secured him one of the most lucrative contracts in sports history, reportedly worth more than $400 million. Over his career, he has earned more than $550 million in salaries and signed a decade-long deal with Nike valued at nearly $18 million annually, alongside partnerships with Armani, Castrol, and other global brands.

Despite his immense wealth, Ronaldo insists he has no plans to retire soon. Speaking at the Portugal Football Globes gala, he emphasized his enduring passion for the game: “I’m still producing good things, I’m helping my club and the national team. Why not continue?”

With this milestone, Ronaldo not only cements his legacy on the pitch but also redefines what it means to be a global sports icon off it.
