First Federal Terrorism Charges Filed Against Antifa Members in Texas ICE Shooting

Donald Trump speaks alongside FBI Director Kash Patel on October 15 in the White House.

Federal prosecutors in Texas have filed the first-ever terrorism charges against individuals alleged to be affiliated with Antifa, following a July 4 shooting outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility in Alvarado, Texas.

According to the Department of Justice, Cameron Arnold of Dallas and Zachary Evetts of Waxahachie were indicted on charges of providing material support to terrorists, attempted murder of federal officers, and discharging a firearm during a violent crime. The attack left a law enforcement officer wounded but not fatally injured.

Officials allege the suspects were part of an “Antifa cell” that coordinated the ambush-style assault on the Prairieland Detention Center. More than a dozen people have been arrested in connection with the incident, though prosecutors emphasized that all defendants remain innocent until proven guilty.

The charges come after President Donald Trump’s recent designation of Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, a move that has sparked debate among legal experts and civil rights advocates. Defense attorneys for the accused have stated their clients intend to fight the charges in court.

This case marks the first time federal terrorism statutes have been applied to alleged Antifa activity, setting a precedent that could shape how future cases involving anti-fascist groups are prosecuted.
