Tuesday, June 16, 2026  |  MoneySavings.ca 🇨🇦 TSX — Another Record on the Books The S&P/TSX Composite closed at a fresh all-time high on Monday, June 15, topping 35,398 intraday before finishing near the upper end of its range. The index is now up more than 11% year-to-date , the second-best performance among major global indexes tracked through mid-June — behind only Japan's Nikkei (+31%). Fragile Truce Tested as Israel Reinstates Ceasefire After Deadly Gaza Strikes

Israel has announced the reinstatement of its ceasefire in Gaza following a wave of overnight airstrikes that killed at least 104 Palestinians, including 46 children and 20 women, according to local health officials The strikes, which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described as “powerful,” were ordered in response to what Israel deemed a violation of the ceasefire agreement by Hamas

The escalation marks the deadliest breach since the U.S.-brokered truce was enacted on October 10, 2025. Israeli officials accused Hamas of failing to return the remains of hostages and of attacking Israeli soldiers, with one soldier reportedly killed in southern Gaza Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Hamas had crossed a “bright red line” and would “pay many times over” for its actions

Despite the strikes, Israeli military officials stated on Wednesday that they would continue to uphold the ceasefire and respond firmly to any further violations Hamas, meanwhile, denied involvement in the attack on Israeli troops and condemned the airstrikes as a breach of the agreement

The renewed violence has sparked international concern, with calls for the immediate opening of humanitarian corridors to aid rescue efforts and deliver essential supplies to GazaU.S. President Donald Trump insisted the ceasefire was “not at risk,” urging both sides to maintain restraint

As funerals take place across Gaza, the fragile truce faces its most serious test yet, with both sides trading blame and the civilian toll continuing to rise.
