Markets Rebound as Hopes for Iran–U.S. Dialogue Ease Geopolitical Tensions

U.S. stock futures edged higher on Wednesday as signs of potential diplomatic movement in the Iran–U.S. standoff helped calm volatile markets. Futures tied to the S&P 500 rose about 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 gained 0.5%, and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added 0.2% after a turbulent prior session.  The shift in sentiment followed reports that Iran has quietly approached the United States to discuss terms for ending the escalating conflict , a development that helped cool fears of further disruption in global energy markets. French Photojournalist Killed in Russian Drone Strike in Eastern Ukraine

Antoni Lallican was killed near the town of Druzhkivka, one of the most active areas of the 1,250-km front line in Ukraine's Donbas region.

A French photojournalist, Antoni Lallican, was killed on Friday in eastern Ukraine after a Russian drone strike targeted the frontline town of Druzhkivka, according to the Ukrainian military. Lallican, who was on assignment for France’s Hans Lucas photo agency, was documenting the ongoing battles in the Donbas region when the attack occurred.

A Ukrainian photographer, Hryhory Ivanchenko, was injured in the strike but survived. Both journalists were wearing protective gear clearly marked “Press,” the Ukrainian army confirmed.

The European Federation of Journalists said Lallican’s death marks the first time a journalist has been killed by a drone in the Ukraine conflict. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, at least 17 journalists have lost their lives in combat zones.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolences, calling Lallican “a victim of a Russian drone attack” and honoring his commitment to documenting the human cost of war.

Lallican, based in Paris, had previously covered conflict zones and humanitarian crises worldwide. His final posts on social media highlighted the devastating impact of drone warfare on civilians in eastern Ukraine.
