Hamas Reasserts Control in Gaza, Casting Doubt on Fragile Ceasefire

Hamas fighters have visibly tightened their grip on Gaza in recent days, raising serious questions about the durability of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Israel. Reports from Gaza City describe public executions of men accused of collaborating with Israeli forces, a stark display of power that underscores the group’s determination to reassert dominance in the war-ravaged enclave.

Although Israeli troops have withdrawn from urban areas under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas has deployed its fighters along key routes, including those critical for humanitarian aid deliveries. Palestinian security sources say dozens have been killed in clashes between Hamas and rival groups, further destabilizing the already fragile truce.

The ceasefire, announced earlier this month, was intended to halt hostilities and pave the way for humanitarian relief. However, Israel insists that lasting peace cannot be achieved until Hamas is fully disarmed, a condition the group continues to defy. With tensions escalating on the ground, the future of the ceasefire remains uncertain, leaving civilians caught in the middle of a volatile and unpredictable situation.
