Wall Street Futures Rise on Bank Earnings and Rate-Cut Optimism

U.S. stock futures climbed Wednesday as strong bank earnings and renewed hopes for Federal Reserve rate cuts helped ease investor concerns over U.S.-China tensions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 200 points in premarket trading, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 also advanced, buoyed by optimism surrounding the start of earnings season. Bank of America reported a 23% jump in profit, joining other major lenders in posting robust results that reassured markets about the financial sector’s resilience. Investors are also betting on potential interest-rate cuts as the Federal Reserve faces mounting pressure to support growth amid trade frictions and a prolonged U.S. government shutdown. The combination of strong corporate performance and policy optimism has lifted sentiment after a volatile session earlier in the week. Global markets mirrored the upbeat tone, with Asian and European equities edging higher, while the dollar weakened and gold prices steadied. Analysts ...

Israel Confirms Hamas Returned Wrong Body Amid Hostage Repatriation

Israel’s military announced that one of the bodies recently handed over by Hamas is not that of a hostage, deepening tensions surrounding the fragile ceasefire agreement.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), forensic examinations revealed that of the four bodies transferred late Tuesday, three were identified as hostages — Uriel Baruch, Tamir Nimrodi, and Eitan Levi — but the fourth did not match any of the known captives.

The discovery has raised new concerns about Hamas’ compliance with the terms of the ceasefire deal, which requires the group to return the remains of all 28 deceased hostages. Israeli officials have demanded that Hamas make “all necessary efforts” to locate and return the correct bodies.

The incident comes as humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza face renewed restrictions, with Israel warning that further violations of the agreement could jeopardize both the truce and the flow of essential supplies.

This latest development underscores the fragility of ongoing negotiations and the immense strain on families still awaiting the return of their loved ones.
