Israel Intensifies Gaza Strikes as Hamas Weighs Trump Peace Proposal

A photo released by the Israel Defense Forces on October 1, 2025, showing IDF activity in the Gaza Strip.

Israel has escalated its military operations in Gaza City while the world awaits Hamas’s official response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly unveiled peace plan. According to reports, at least 16 Palestinians were killed in recent strikes, including civilians sheltering in schools and hospitals, as well as a journalist working for Turkish broadcaster TRT.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that multiple divisions carried out raids, drone strikes, and targeted operations against Hamas positions and weapons depots across Gaza City. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already signaled Israel’s acceptance of the U.S.-backed plan, which calls for Hamas to disarm, release hostages, and relinquish control of Gaza in exchange for prisoner releases, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction efforts.

Hamas, however, has said it is still reviewing the 20-point proposal with other Palestinian factions before issuing a formal response. Mediators from Qatar and Egypt have urged the group to consider the plan, which has received support from several Arab and Muslim-majority nations.

The proposal notably stops short of offering a clear path to Palestinian statehood, a sticking point for many in the region. Meanwhile, the humanitarian toll continues to mount, with Gaza’s Health Ministry reporting more than 66,000 deaths since the conflict began in October 2023.

As diplomatic pressure builds, the coming days may prove decisive in determining whether the war continues or shifts toward a fragile ceasefire.
