Moscow Faces Consecutive Nights of Drone Strikes Amid Escalating Tensions

A woman with a kid walks under barrier tape in front of a damaged apartment building following a drone attack in Krasnogorsk in the Moscow region on October 24, 2025.

For the second night in a row, Moscow has been targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks, according to Russia’s defense ministry and Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin. The Russian military reported that 17 drones were intercepted overnight, including one headed directly toward Moscow and 13 over the Kaluga region, which borders the capital to the northeast.

Mayor Sobyanin confirmed that emergency services were dispatched to the site where debris from the downed drone fell, though no major damage or casualties were reported in the capital. However, in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, one civilian was hospitalized as a result of the strikes.

The attacks come just a day after a similar wave of drones targeted Moscow and surrounding areas, temporarily disrupting operations at Zhukovsky and Domodedovo airports. Explosions were also reported in several suburbs, highlighting the growing reach of Ukraine’s long-range drone campaign.

While Russia insists its air defense systems successfully neutralized the threat, analysts note that these repeated strikes demonstrate Ukraine’s ability to project force deep into Russian territory. Moscow has rarely disclosed the full extent of damage from such incidents, unless civilian infrastructure is directly affected.

The escalation underscores the increasingly blurred frontlines of the conflict, with both sides intensifying aerial assaults. Ukraine has faced relentless Russian missile and drone barrages against its cities and energy infrastructure, while Kyiv continues to push the war closer to Russia’s political and economic heartland.

As the conflict grinds on, the frequency of cross-border strikes suggests that neither side is willing to scale back its offensive operations, raising concerns about further destabilization in the region.
