A woman walks past a digital screen displaying news of US-Iran peace talks along a road in Islamabad on April 10, 2026 The United States has warned it will step up economic pressure on Iran while mediators race to arrange a second round of ceasefire talks before the fragile truce expires on April 22, 2026 — a standoff that risks higher oil prices, tighter global markets, and direct costs for Canadian households and investors.   Background and diplomatic timeline A two‑week ceasefire that paused nearly seven weeks of fighting was brokered to create a narrow diplomatic window for talks between Washington and Tehran. Seven Minutes of Infamy: The Daring Louvre Crown Jewel Heist

In one of the boldest museum robberies in recent memory, four thieves executed a meticulously planned heist at the Louvre Museum in Paris, making off with priceless French crown jewels in just seven minutes.

The robbery unfolded on Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, shortly after the museum opened its doors. Disguised as construction workers, the gang used a truck-mounted lift to access a balcony overlooking the Seine. Armed with power tools, they forced open a window leading into the Galerie d’Apollon, the historic hall that houses France’s most treasured jewels.

Once inside, the thieves smashed display cases and swiftly removed eight pieces of jewelry, including crowns, necklaces, and brooches once belonging to Napoleon and Empress Eugénie. Surveillance footage later revealed them cutting through reinforced glass before fleeing on motorcycles waiting nearby.

The audacity of the operation stunned both officials and visitors. French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described the thieves as “a very experienced team that acted very, very quickly,” while President Emmanuel Macron vowed that the jewels—considered of “inestimable heritage value”—would be recovered.

The Louvre has remained closed in the aftermath of the heist, as investigators pursue what prosecutors have called “aggravated theft by an organized gang.” For now, the fate of France’s stolen crown jewels remains uncertain, leaving the world to marvel at how one of the most secure museums on Earth was breached in broad daylight.
