Market Jitters Return as Cooler CPI Surprises Wall Street

A softer‑than‑expected U.S. Consumer Price Index reading sent a ripple through financial markets today, creating an unusual dynamic: good news on inflation, but renewed pressure on major stock indexes. A Cooling CPI, but a Nervous Market The latest CPI report showed inflation easing more than economists anticipated. Under normal circumstances, that would be a welcome sign—suggesting the Federal Reserve may have more room to consider rate cuts later in the year. But markets don’t always behave logically in the moment. Today, the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average, and Nasdaq all slipped as investors reassessed what the data means for corporate earnings, interest‑rate expectations, and the broader economic outlook. Tensions Rise as Gaza Aid Flotilla Reports Israeli Naval Intimidation

Members of the group of ships of the Global Sumud Flotilla to Gaza are seen moored at the small island of Koufonisi, south of the island of Crete, on September 26, 2025.

An international flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza has accused Israeli naval vessels of carrying out “dangerous and intimidatory maneuvers” as it approached the blockaded enclave.

Organizers of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet of more than 40 civilian boats with around 500 passengers—including parliamentarians, lawyers, and activists such as Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg—said two Israeli warships encircled their vessels Alma and Sirius. During the incident, navigation and communication systems reportedly went offline, which one organizer described as a possible “cyber attack”.

The flotilla, which set sail from Spain in late August, aims to deliver food and medicine to Gaza in defiance of Israel’s long-standing naval blockade. It has already faced drone attacks that dropped stun grenades and irritant powder, causing damage but no injuries.

Despite the risks, organizers vowed to continue their mission, calling the blockade “illegal” and accusing Israel of endangering unarmed civilians from over 40 countries. Israel has not commented on the latest confrontation but has previously stated it will use any means necessary to prevent the flotilla from reaching Gaza, citing security concerns tied to Hamas.

The flotilla is expected to reach Gaza’s coast within days, unless intercepted.
