Negotiators from Russia and Ukraine convened in Geneva for a new round of U.S.-mediated peace talks, with territorial disputes emerging as the central point of contention. The discussions, held over two days, come amid heightened pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump, who has urged Kyiv to “come to the table fast” in pursuit of a settlement.  Both sides remain deeply divided over land claims, which have become the primary obstacle to progress. Trump Issues Sunday Deadline for Hamas to Accept Gaza Deal

Smoke rises during an Israeli military operation in Gaza City, as seen from the central Gaza Strip, October 2, 2025.

President Donald Trump has given Hamas until 6 p.m. Washington time on Sunday to accept his proposed plan for Gaza, warning that failure to do so will trigger consequences he described as “all HELL, like no one has ever seen before”.

The ultimatum follows Trump’s unveiling of a 20-point peace framework, endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and backed by several Arab and European nations. The plan calls for:

  • An immediate ceasefire
  • The release of all hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners in Israel
  • A phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza
  • The disarmament of Hamas
  • The creation of a transitional governing body overseen by an international coalition

Hamas officials have not yet issued a final response, though discussions with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey are ongoing. The group has historically rejected demands to disarm, making acceptance of the plan uncertain.

Trump, expressing frustration at the lack of progress, insisted that “every country has signed on” and urged “innocent Palestinians” to move to safer areas of Gaza ahead of potential escalation.

The deadline underscores the mounting pressure on Hamas as the conflict nears its two-year mark, with international mediators warning that the window for a negotiated settlement is rapidly closing.
