Ukraine Faces Deepening Power Shortages After Russian Strikes

A resident shows a journalist where a Russian drone struck the roof of an apartment building, depriving its residents of water, heat and electricity, in Kyiv. Ukraine is confronting one of its most severe energy shortfalls since the start of the full‑scale invasion, with the country currently able to supply only about 60% of its electricity needs. A new wave of Russian missile and drone attacks has heavily damaged power plants and transmission infrastructure across multiple regions, pushing the grid to the brink. Officials report that nearly every major power‑generating facility has been hit in recent weeks. Trump Orders Review of Federal Aid to Portland Amid Ongoing Protests

President Donald Trump has directed his administration to review federal funding to Portland, Oregon, in response to ongoing anti-ICE demonstrations and what the White House has described as “anarchy” in the city.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Friday that the president instructed his team to identify areas of federal aid that could potentially be cut. “We will not fund states that allow anarchy,” Leavitt said, citing repeated clashes outside Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility.

The move comes after months of protests in Portland, where demonstrators have targeted federal immigration enforcement policies. Federal officials claim the ICE building has been attacked with projectiles and vandalized, while local leaders have resisted calls for increased federal intervention.

In addition to the funding review, the administration has signaled plans to bolster federal law enforcement presence in the city. Portland officials, however, have pushed back, arguing that federal involvement risks escalating tensions further.

The review of aid marks the latest flashpoint in the ongoing standoff between the Trump administration and Democratic-led cities over immigration enforcement and public safety.
