Trump Picks John Breslow as Next U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus
United States President Donald Trump
United States President Donald Trump has nominated John Breslow, a businessman and former Nebraska state auditor, to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Cyprus. Breslow, originally from Arizona, will need Senate confirmation before officially assuming the post in Nicosia .
If confirmed, Breslow will succeed Julie Davis, who left Cyprus in May to become the U.S. chargĂ© d’affaires in Ukraine. Davis had served in Nicosia since February 2023 and continued to represent the embassy at public events even after her reassignment.
Breslow brings both political and business experience to the role. He previously owned Linweld, an industrial gas and welding supply company, and served two terms as Nebraska’s state auditor. He has also been active in philanthropy and Republican Party politics.
The nomination underscores Washington’s ongoing engagement with Cyprus, a strategically important partner in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Senate will now review Breslow’s candidacy, with a committee hearing and majority vote required before he can officially take up the ambassadorship.
