Europe Rejects U.S. Peace Framework Demanding Ukrainian Concessions

Ukraine suffered one of the worst Russian attacks in months when drones and missiles hit Ternopil.  European leaders have firmly rejected a U.S.-backed peace proposal that would require Ukraine to surrender territory and scale back its military capabilities. The plan, reportedly drafted by Washington and discussed with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has been described by European officials as tantamount to forcing Kyiv into capitulation. According to reports, the framework envisions Ukraine giving up land to Russia and partially disarming its armed forces. This approach has sparked alarm across Europe, where officials insist that any peace plan must respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and involve both Kyiv and European partners in negotiations. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas emphasized that “for any plan to work, it needs Ukrainians and Europeans on board,” underscoring the bloc’s position that decisions about Ukraine’s future cannot be made without its direct involvement. Ceasefire Shattered: Gaza Suffers Deadliest Strikes

A man uses a mobile phone as Palestinians inspect the site of Wednesday's Israeli strike in Gaza City, on Nov 20, 2025.

In one of the most violent escalations since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire took effect on October 10, Israeli airstrikes across Gaza have killed at least 33 people within a 12-hour period. The strikes targeted areas in Khan Younis and Gaza City, hitting tents sheltering displaced families and residential buildings. Among the victims were women and children, underscoring the devastating human toll of the renewed conflict.

The Israeli military stated that the attacks were in response to gunfire directed at its soldiers in Khan Younis. While no Israeli soldiers were reported killed, the retaliation has sparked widespread condemnation. Hospitals in Gaza reported receiving dozens of bodies, including entire families, as emergency workers struggled to cope with the influx of casualties.

The violence has raised fears that the fragile truce, already strained by repeated accusations of violations from both sides, may collapse entirely. Qatar, a key mediator in the ceasefire, warned that the renewed strikes threaten to unravel weeks of delicate negotiations aimed at preventing further bloodshed.

The strikes also coincided with Israeli operations in Lebanon, where attacks targeted Hezbollah positions, highlighting the broader regional volatility. Analysts warn that the simultaneous escalation in Gaza and Lebanon could ignite a wider conflict if diplomatic efforts fail.

For civilians in Gaza, the latest bombardments have deepened the humanitarian crisis. Displaced families who sought refuge in makeshift shelters were among the hardest hit, with survivors describing scenes of chaos and destruction. Aid organizations have called for immediate restraint, stressing that the continuation of such attacks will only worsen the already dire conditions in the territory.

As the death toll rises, the international community faces mounting pressure to intervene and salvage the ceasefire. Whether the truce can withstand this latest surge of violence remains uncertain, but for Gaza’s residents, the promise of peace feels more fragile than ever.
