Liberal Ranks Grow as Michael Ma Joins Carney’s Team

Markham-Unionville MP Michael Ma crossed the floor to join the Liberals on Thursday. In a dramatic political shift on Parliament Hill, Michael Ma, the Member of Parliament for Markham–Unionville, announced on December 11, 2025, that he is leaving the Conservative caucus to sit with the Liberals . His decision follows weeks of consultation with constituents and family, and comes on the heels of Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont’s defection last month. Robotic Breakthrough: St. Michael’s Hospital Advances Remote Stroke Care

Neurosurgeon Dr. Vitor Mendes Pereira, as shown in this handout photo provided by Unity Health Toronto, uses a computer at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto to remotely control a robot six kilometres away at St. Michael's Hospital manoeuvring a catheter through a patient's brain for a cerebral angiogram.

St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto has taken a groundbreaking step toward transforming stroke treatment through remote robotic technology. In a recent clinical milestone, specialists successfully demonstrated how robotic systems can be operated from a distance to perform delicate procedures on stroke patients.

This innovation could dramatically expand access to life-saving care, especially for individuals in rural or underserved communities where specialized stroke intervention is not readily available. By enabling expert physicians to guide robotic tools remotely, the hospital is paving the way for faster response times and improved patient outcomes.

The initiative highlights the growing role of robotics and telemedicine in modern healthcare. If widely adopted, remote robotic stroke treatment could reduce disability rates and save countless lives, setting a new global standard for emergency neurological care.
