Liberal Ranks Grow as Michael Ma Joins Carney’s Team

Markham-Unionville MP Michael Ma crossed the floor to join the Liberals on Thursday. In a dramatic political shift on Parliament Hill, Michael Ma, the Member of Parliament for Markham–Unionville, announced on December 11, 2025, that he is leaving the Conservative caucus to sit with the Liberals . His decision follows weeks of consultation with constituents and family, and comes on the heels of Nova Scotia MP Chris d’Entremont’s defection last month. Ma explained that his move was motivated by a desire for “unity and decisive action for Canada’s future.” He praised Prime Minister Mark Carney’s leadership, describing it as a steady and practical approach to tackling pressing issues such as affordability, economic growth, community safety, and opportunities for young families. scalating Violence: Israeli Strikes Kill Dozens in Lebanon and Gaza

Israeli air strikes have intensified across Lebanon and Gaza, leaving dozens dead and further destabilizing fragile ceasefires in the region.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike on the Ein el-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp near Sidon killed at least 13 people and wounded several others. The attack targeted a car parked near a mosque, with Lebanese officials reporting that ambulances rushed victims to nearby hospitals. Hours later, another strike in the village of Tiri killed one person and injured 11, including students aboard a bus.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, hospitals reported at least 25 Palestinians killed in multiple strikes across Gaza City, Khan Younis, and Rafah. Medics confirmed that casualties included families caught in residential areas, underscoring the human toll of the renewed bombardments.

Israel’s military claimed the operations were aimed at Hamas and Hezbollah targets, accusing both groups of violating ceasefire agreements. However, officials in Gaza and Lebanon condemned the strikes as indiscriminate, pointing to the mounting civilian death toll. According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, Israel has carried out nearly 400 attacks in violation of the latest ceasefire, killing over 279 people and wounding hundreds more.

The violence comes amid warnings that the conflict could spiral into a broader regional war. Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health described the Ein el-Hilweh strike as the deadliest attack since the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire a year ago, while Gaza officials called the bombardments a clear breach of the truce.

As tensions rise, humanitarian agencies are urging immediate restraint, warning that the escalating strikes risk deepening the humanitarian crisis in both Gaza and Lebanon.
