Deadly Russian Strikes Plunge Ukraine Into Winter Blackouts

Kyiv neighbourhood plunged into darkness after latest Russian attacks.

A large-scale Russian air assault on Ukraine has left three people dead and triggered widespread power outages across multiple regions. The overnight attack involved waves of drones and missiles aimed at both residential areas and critical energy infrastructure, intensifying pressure on the country as winter temperatures continue to fall.

Authorities reported that strikes hit at least a dozen regions, damaging homes and forcing emergency shutdowns across parts of the national grid. Among the victims was a young child, killed when debris from a downed drone struck a residential neighborhood.

The bombardment also prompted neighboring Poland to activate military aircraft as projectiles approached its airspace, underscoring the broader regional risks posed by the conflict.

Ukrainian officials condemned the attack as a deliberate attempt to destabilize civilian life during the holiday season, while emergency crews worked through the morning to restore electricity and repair damaged infrastructure.
