Canada’s Inflation Climbs to 2.4% as Gas Prices Surge to Record High

Canada’s inflation rate accelerated to 2.4% in March , up from 1.8% in February, as the Iran war triggered the largest monthly gasoline price increase on record . Statistics Canada reported that gas prices surged 21.2% month‑over‑month , a supply‑shock response to Iran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz and broader Middle East instability.  Energy costs were the dominant driver of March inflation, with overall energy prices rising 3.9% year‑over‑year after a sharp decline the month before. Ukraine Drone Strikes Hit Moscow, Trigger Fire in Tula Region

Tula lies directly south of the Moscow

Russian authorities reported that Ukrainian drones launched overnight attacks on Moscow, with debris from the downed aircraft sparking an industrial fire in the Tula region, located south of the capital.

  • Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that at least three drones aimed at the city were intercepted by air defenses. Emergency services were dispatched to the crash sites, though no immediate damage or casualties were reported.
  • Russia’s civil aviation authority announced that two of Moscow’s four major airports temporarily restricted operations due to the attacks.
  • The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its air defense units destroyed 172 Ukrainian drones overnight, nearly half of them over regions bordering Ukraine.
  • In Tula, local officials said debris from a drone caused a fire at an industrial site. Reports from residents suggested the facility may have been a synthetic rubber plant, though authorities have not confirmed the exact target.

The strikes underscore Ukraine’s continued use of long-range drones to pressure Russian infrastructure and disrupt operations deep inside Russian territory. While Moscow has downplayed the damage, the attacks highlight vulnerabilities in Russia’s industrial and aviation sectors.
