China Blasts U.S. Over Seizure of Venezuela’s Maduro

Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in Beijing in 2023.

China has issued a forceful denunciation of the United States following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, calling the operation a serious breach of international norms and a destabilizing act in Latin America.

Beijing described the U.S. action as a “blatant violation of international law” and urged Washington to ensure Maduro’s safety and release him without delay. Chinese officials warned that unilateral military operations undermine global stability and set a dangerous precedent for international relations.

As one of Venezuela’s key economic partners, China reaffirmed its support for the country’s sovereignty and insisted that political disputes must be resolved through dialogue rather than force. The statement placed China alongside several other nations that have criticized the U.S. intervention and called for restraint.

China emphasized that respect for national sovereignty remains a cornerstone of global order and urged all parties to avoid further escalation.
