Snowstorm Slams Southern Ontario, Disrupting Schools and Travel

More snow is coming for southern Ontario and parts of Quebec.

A fast‑moving winter storm swept across southern Ontario overnight, dumping heavy snow and creating difficult travel conditions for much of the region. Blowing snow and strong winds reduced visibility on major highways, slowing the morning commute and prompting officials to urge drivers to stay cautious.

Several school boards across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area closed their buildings for the day, while others cancelled bus service but kept schools open. Universities and colleges also shifted classes online as conditions worsened.

Air travel faced disruptions as well, with delays and cancellations reported throughout the morning while crews worked to clear runways.

Snow is expected to ease later in the day, but cleanup efforts will continue as plows work to clear major routes and residential streets. Residents are being encouraged to give themselves extra time, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for lingering slick conditions.
