Deep Freeze Alert Issued for the GTA

Environment Canada a cold weather warning for the entire Greater Toronto Area this weekend.

An extreme cold warning has been issued for the Greater Toronto Area as a surge of Arctic air pushes temperatures to dangerous lows. The region is expected to face wind chills near –30, creating conditions that can lead to frostbite in minutes.

The cold snap is forecast to intensify through the weekend. Saturday’s high of –13°C will feel closer to –33°C in the morning due to strong winds, with evening wind chills hovering around –28. Sunday will bring similar conditions, offering little relief from the biting cold.

Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, bundle up in layers, and check on vulnerable individuals who may be at higher risk. Young children, older adults, and those without adequate shelter are especially susceptible during prolonged periods of extreme cold.

Despite the harsh conditions, the cold spell is expected to ease early next week as temperatures gradually return to seasonal norms.
