Jesse Jackson: A Legacy of Courage and Conviction Ends at 84

Jesse Jackson led a lifetime of crusades in the United States and abroad, advocating for the poor and underrepresented on issues from voting rights and job opportunities to education and health care.

Reverend Jesse Jackson, one of the most influential figures of the American civil rights movement, has died at the age of 84. A protégé of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackson dedicated more than six decades to advancing racial equality, economic justice, and voting rights. His family confirmed that he passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, surrounded by loved ones.

Jackson’s activism began in the 1960s, where he emerged as a powerful voice for justice and later became a two-time Democratic presidential candidate, breaking barriers for future generations of Black political leaders. Over the years, he continued to champion human rights globally and remained a steadfast advocate despite significant health challenges, including a diagnosis of progressive supranuclear palsy.

His passing marks the end of an era, but his impact endures through the countless lives he touched and the movements he helped shape.
