Air Travel Upended as Middle East Conflict Forces Widespread Flight Cancellations

Global airlines are cancelling and rerouting flights as the Middle East conflict intensifies, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded and forcing carriers to suspend operations across major regional hubs.

What’s Happening

As the conflict centered around Iran escalates, major Middle Eastern hubs—including Dubai, Doha, and Abu Dhabi—have been forced to close temporarily. This has triggered a cascade of global flight cancellations and reroutes, severely disrupting international travel. Tens of thousands of passengers have been stranded as airlines scramble to adjust schedules.

Airlines Affected

  • Aegean Airlines has suspended flights to Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, Erbil, Baghdad, Dubai, and Riyadh, with cancellations extending into April and May.
  • airBaltic has cancelled all flights to Tel Aviv until early April.
  • Numerous other carriers—including Air Canada and British Airways—have reduced or halted service to major Middle Eastern destinations as airspace instability continues.

Impact on Travelers

Passengers face delays, reroutes, and extended cancellations as airlines navigate closed airspace and safety concerns. Many carriers are offering refunds or rebooking options, but uncertainty remains high as the situation evolves.
