Israel’s military confirmed it carried out a rare strike deep inside Beirut, targeting senior Iranian commanders amid intensifying regional conflict. The drone attack—its first within the Lebanese capital’s city limits since hostilities with Hezbollah reignited—comes after days of bombardment that have left nearly 400 people dead. 

The strike hit an apartment in the Ramada Plaza hotel building, part of a broader wave of attacks across Beirut’s southern suburbs and other regions of Lebanon. Israel stated it was aiming at key figures within Iran’s elite Quds Force, though it did not publicly identify the commanders. The escalation has triggered mass displacement, with tens of thousands fleeing the capital as air raid sirens and retaliatory strikes spread across the region. 

The operation marks a significant expansion of Israel’s military reach and underscores the growing volatility of the Israel‑Iran confrontation, now spilling deeper into Lebanon’s urban core. Regional governments and global observers warn that continued escalation could further destabilize the Middle East’s already fragile security landscape.
