Moscow Condemns Washington Over ‘False Pretext’ for Iran Strike

Russia has sharply criticized the United States, accusing Washington of launching an attack on Iran based on what it calls an imaginary or invented threat. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the U.S. used ongoing negotiations with Iran as a cover for a broader plan aimed at destabilizing the country’s constitutional order.
Russian officials argue that the U.S. not only misrepresented the threat posed by Iran but also encouraged Iranians to rise up against their leadership—actions Moscow described as both cynical and inhumane. The remarks come amid heightened tensions following a strike on a police station in Tehran, part of the wider U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran.
Zakharova emphasized that the U.S. had been engaged in diplomatic talks with Iran as recently as the previous week, suggesting these discussions were merely a façade for a long-standing regime‑change agenda. Russia, which maintains a strategic partnership with Iran, framed the U.S. actions as a violation of sovereignty and a destabilizing force in the region.
