Bank of Canada Holds the Line as Global Turmoil Clouds Outlook

Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem takes part in a press conference in Ottawa on September 17, 2025 The Bank of Canada has opted to keep its key interest rate steady at 2.25%, a decision that reflects the delicate balancing act policymakers face as global uncertainty intensifies. Uncertainty Surrounds Iran’s New Supreme Leader After Trump’s Remarks

                                            Mojtaba Ali Khamenei

Questions about the status of Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, intensified after President Donald Trump suggested that U.S. officials are unsure whether he is still alive. Speaking at the White House, Trump said there had been no confirmed public appearance from Khamenei following reports that he was injured during an air strike.

Khamenei, who succeeded his father Ayatollah Ali Khamenei after the latter was killed in the early stages of the conflict, has remained out of sight since his appointment. This absence has fueled speculation, with Trump noting that “nobody has seen him,” calling the situation “unusual.”

Reports from U.S. defense officials have suggested the new leader may have been seriously wounded, with some claiming he suffered severe injuries, while others speculate he may have died. Iran, however, has insisted he is alive, though it has yet to provide verifiable evidence or a public appearance to confirm his condition.

As tensions escalate in the region, the mystery surrounding Mojtaba Khamenei’s health adds another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile geopolitical landscape.
