Liberal Candidate Paul Chiang Steps Down Amid Controversy

Ottawa’s Rideau Canal Skateway Reopens: Walk, Don’t Skate!

Ottawa, Canada – The iconic Rideau Canal Skateway, known as the world’s largest outdoor skating rink, briefly reopened its frozen expanse to visitors on Sunday. However, there’s a twist: leave your ice skates at home.

The National Capital Commission (NCC) made the decision to partially reopen approximately one-quarter of the Skateway at noon. But before you lace up those blades, take heed: the ice is currently only safe for walking.

Why the caution? An overnight snowfall disrupted the usual maintenance routine, preventing crews from flooding the canal. As a result, the ice condition has been rated as “very poor.” Skaters are advised to tread carefully and enjoy the picturesque views without the gliding motion.

The Rideau Canal Skateway, a beloved winter tradition in Ottawa, usually draws throngs of skaters from around the world. Its reopening, even for walking, brings a sense of normalcy and a chance to savor the crisp winter air. So, grab your warmest boots, bundle up, and explore this frozen wonderland – just remember to leave the skates behind!
