Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. U.S. Resumes Military Aid as Ukraine Accepts 30-Day Ceasefire Proposal

In a significant diplomatic development, the United States has reinstated military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine following a pivotal agreement reached during talks in Saudi Arabia. Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposal, contingent on Russia's acceptance, marking a potential step toward de-escalating the ongoing conflict.

The discussions, held in Jeddah, brought together senior officials from the U.S. and Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the ceasefire proposal now rests in Russia's hands, urging Moscow to reciprocate Ukraine's willingness to halt hostilities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed optimism, stating that the ceasefire could serve as a foundation for broader peace negotiations.

The reinstatement of U.S. military aid underscores Washington's commitment to supporting Ukraine amid the three-year-long conflict. The ceasefire, if implemented, would provide a critical pause in fighting, allowing for diplomatic efforts to address long-term security concerns and establish a lasting resolution.

This agreement has garnered praise from Western leaders, who view it as a significant step toward peace. However, the ultimate success of the ceasefire depends on Russia's response, which remains uncertain.
