Europe Scorched by Record Heatwave: France and Italy Take Emergency Measures

As a blistering heatwave tightens its grip on Europe, countries are scrambling to protect citizens from soaring temperatures and mounting health risks. France has shuttered over 1,350 schools  and closed the top floor of the Eiffel Tower as temperatures surged past 40°C (104°F)  in several regions. Sixteen French departments are now under the highest heat alert, with authorities urging people to stay hydrated and indoors during peak hours. Meanwhile, Italy has imposed restrictions on outdoor work , particularly in agriculture and construction, during the hottest parts of the day. Diplomatic Shift: Trump Urges Syrian President to Normalize Ties with Israel

In a surprising diplomatic move, former U.S. President Donald Trump met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Saudi Arabia, urging him to establish formal ties with Israel. The meeting, which took place ahead of a summit between the United States and Gulf Arab nations, marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy toward Syria.

Trump's appeal to Sharaa comes after the U.S. announced the lifting of all sanctions on Syria, a decision that has sparked both optimism and skepticism among international observers. The former president encouraged Syria to follow the path of the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco, which normalized relations with Israel under the U.S.-brokered Abraham Accords in 2020.

While Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in joining the accords, discussions stalled following the Gaza conflict, with the kingdom insisting that Palestinian statehood must precede normalization. Trump's push for Syrian-Israeli ties is expected to face resistance from Israel, which remains wary of Sharaa's past affiliations.

The lifting of sanctions is seen as a major boost for Syria's new leadership, potentially opening doors for humanitarian aid, foreign investment, and economic recovery. However, the geopolitical implications of Trump's initiative remain uncertain, as regional powers and international allies react to this unexpected development.
